Now that Five Guys is popping up all over the city, you may be wondering: Who exactly are the guys in Five Guys? The owners of the first store in Arlington, Virginia, named the restaurant after their kids. This news is completely disappointing because naming things after your kids is boring. But it does beat out the name, Wendy's.

Also similar to Wendy's, Five Guys claims to never freeze its beef. All toppings other than cheese are free, including the usual suspects (tomato, lettuce), the good (jalapeno peppers), and the throwback to the '80's (A-1 sauce). On the menu, "little burger" means one patty. I ordered the "regular burger" (two stacked patties), but what I got in an extra patty, I lost in bun because it disintegrated in juice.

The fries are fried in 100% peanut oil, and a board in the corner, above the potato sacks, declares where the potatoes are from. Although I am glad to have Driggs potatoes, this does not sound like a fun town. Not to be unpolitically correct, but Driggs sounds like a rare type of learning disability.

I'm starting off with my cow rating:

I really liked this burger. People like to compare it to In-N-Out, maybe because of the fresh ingredients and lack of freezers, but the burgers definitely have a taste all their own. I got the "Little" cheeseburger and added ketchup, mustard, mayo, pickles, lettuce, and tomato. It's definitely not little, but I suppose that is reflected in the $5.49 price. The bun is soft and doughy which helps it to meld all the ingredients together and not let all the toppings escape out the sides. Delicious. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 cows is because I've been to Five Guys on other occasions and haven't always been as happy with the burger as I was this last time. They might just need to work a bit on consistency, but that won't stop me from going back. Often.

This is the best "fast food" burger you can get in NY. I know that's a big statement to make. But I don't think you can get a better consistently quality made burger at multiple locations in Manhattan, Brooklyn and NJ. Bex may not agree but in my experience at 4 of the locations the meat has been fresh and the burger to bun ratio has been just perfect. Take a look at the photos and you'll see what I mean. Its like being able to go to Shake Shack except there is no line, and they aren't located in a park. Oh and they have free peanuts you can snack on while you wait for your burger. I heart you 5 guys. Mmm, Five Guys. I'm kind of worried for myself that there's one in walking distance from our new apartment.
