Bonnie's Grill with Bex and Roger

Three words describe this burger: Big. Juicy. Spicy.

The burger patty was coated in a chili spice rub before being charred on the grill, which makes for a zesty burger. It came as a surprise to me when I first tasted it although I should have figured it out by its name on the menu: Spiced Black Angus Sirloin Burger. At first I loved the added heat and spiciness but halfway through it seemed to dominated the other flavors. My cheese choice was American and they slapped two slices on my patty while it was on the grill and covered it to melt. The lettuce, tomato, red onion, and pickles were all fresh and plentiful. The large poppy seed kaiser bun was very toasted, almost burnt, and held up well to the juiciness of the patty. This is a substantial burger and comes with fries so bring a big appetite!

The atmosphere is casual and cozy, and our server Julie gets 5 stars (or cows) for being awesome and answering all of our annoying burger club questions. Speaking of, here's what we found out about Bonnie's:

1. It's owned by two guys named Anthony and Mike.
2. The restaurant is named Bonnie's, not after a woman, but as the nickname of either Anthony or Mike's Dad or Grandfather whose last name was Bonfilo or something to that effect.. haha, after Julie explained it twice I still don't remember exactly.
3. The owners are from Buffalo so the buffalo wings (sent from Buffalo) are the house specialty.

Bonnie's is one of those places I wish was in my neighborhood. Not because it has the best burgers but for the great atmosphere. Its long diner-style counter makes you want to just sit right down and order a burger.

The rest of the restaurant is peppered with 2-top and a couple 4-top tables. So don't show up with a crowd. Bonnie's has one server for the whole place. We were lucky enough to go on Wednesday. The day Julie works. She's pretty much the best. So go then. My burger colleague did a great job explaining the burger. It's big and spicy. Something I wasn't exactly in love with but I was hungry so it wasn't a problem.

Hey! Like your blog a lot.
Stumbled into Bonnie's the other day and ordered a burger. Medium rare with American cheese. Wasn't expecting anything amazing but.. wow a seriously delicious burger! Can't wait to go back some time soon.
BTW, my favourite burger is the one at Peter Luger's. It's a 'back to basics' style burger- just beef, american cheese, some sliced onion and a great bun (and I always add a little of their steak sauce), but somehow the meat just tastes incredible. You should check it out some time.

Thanks for the note Jerry. Peter Luger's burger is great burger but since they only offer it at lunch its been difficult to get the entire BCNY club together for an outing. We'll definitely work on getting that review up. Thanks for the reminder

hey BCNY- love your blog, you guys do this burger business right. I've started something similar- the ELBC (East Lansing Burger Club) at www.eastlansingburgerclub.blogspot.com

just wanted to say there are more burger clubs out there fighting the good fight.
