Mark Our Words

Mark Burger from Roger Kisby on Vimeo.

Bex:

I eat at Mark often since it's 2 blocks from my apartment. I can't say they have the most consistent tasting burgers, but they are almost always delicious! The first few times I ate at Mark, when it first opened, the little burgers had heaps of grilled onions on them which overpowered any other flavors. I love grilled onions, but it was just too much. A month or two later they were using less onions and the burgers were perfect: Good beef flavor, charred and grilled onions, melted American cheese and soft potato buns- YUM! Similar to, but better than White Manna. Oh, and that is when I discovered their sides of pickles. They are $.25 for a little cup full and an absolute must for me. This last time at Mark with BCNY was almost as good, but the onions seem to have dwindled even more so, as well as the cheese. Still delicious little burgers but not perfect. The fries are from fresh potatoes and they know how to do them right. As you may know, I'm a HUGE fan of ketchup, and condiments in general but I'm not too impressed with Mark's jalapeno, chipotle ketchup, or BBQ sauces, they just fall flat. Bex rates: 4 cows

Jane:

Mark my words, this burger was yummy. The location itself is small, and with an enormous grill in the center of the joint, you'll definitely leave smelling of burger and a bit sweaty from all that meaty heat. The sliders themselves were good, but a bit heavy on the onion for my taste, so you have to check your breath after this place. Was also hoping to taste the bacon mixed in with the bacon burger more than I did, but it was still good. Our fries came out way too long after the sliders, which lost some points that the three types of special sauce couldn't make up for. The ultimate winner for me here, though, was the milkshake--50% black and 50% white, but at least 110% delicious! Jane rates: 2 cows and a calf

Roger:

The place was hot but not in a good way. I was totally sweating the whole time I was there. Maybe because Mark's is a small narrow place with the grill is right in the middle. But most diners are like that so maybe the heat was one. I dunno but it was uncomfortable. I liked the burgers. Sliders aren't my favorite. I always feel like you get more bun than meat but these were pretty good. The real draw for me was the fries. Problem was it took so long to get them. So I say come for the burgers, stay for the fries. Roger rates: 2 cows and a calf

Anna:

Mark Burgers serves sliders in the style of White Manna but not nearly as good. The inside of Mark's is like a lava lamp: red lighting, long and narrow, and fucking hot with the heat coming off the grill. My bacon slider order was forgotten (it happens), so by the end of dinner I had a stack of sliders, four regular and two bacon. It reminded me of this: http://humour.200ok.com.au/soap.htm. I didn't really like the bacon sliders because the bacon was dry from all the cooking. The fries were delicious, although they nearly came with the check, so Anna rates: 2.5 cows
